Brian McCarty's most recent project titled "War Toys" seeks to explore war from the perspective of children living in its day-to-day reality. Employing principles of expressive art therapy, McCarthy encouraged children living in areas affected by war and conflict to draw images of their experiences in order to begin a healing process. McCarty then sourced inexpensive toys from local stores and recreated the disturbing drawings, interpreting them into a series of photographic works. On November 5, McCarty will open his solo show, “War Toys: Israel, West Bank, Gaza Strip,” presented by Tinca Art at the Peanut Underground project space in NYC. Featuring photographs as well as the original children’s drawings.
