Private Stages - Collages

Peter Freitag in his Collages of "Private Stages" took amateur photographs of nudes from the Internet and undermine the original intention of the images through a simple process of interference.

The nude is obscured with little "dots" that are made with punchhole irons using the colours and structures from the original image. The manipulation remains visible on the image plane with dots and circles forming a recognizable silhouette of the vanished nude. Through this retouching process, the former pinup-photo becomes a simple interior. The background space of the image which was previously unimportant – becomes the main subject of the image.
